One day, a loved one may just completely disappear without any 
trace. And when they come back, they might’ve changed mentally, 
physically, or both. It may be hard to reconnect with that person, if it’s possible at all. 
That feeling of bewilderment, uneasiness, and forced distance captures the Director perfectly. 
With her constantly having to hear from Gertrude that she’s a mere 
shadow of her former self, she can no longer deny the claim. The Director shows barely any emotion - the only thing that makes her heart beat, is wealth and status.
